I’ve been a fan of Andrew since 2005 and have found so much personal connection and healing through his music and lyrics over the years. Reading more about his story through this book was a great complement to the many concerts I’ve been to. Wonderful story about growing up and the trials of life, love, family, hope and healing - that both lifelong fans and new fans can relate to. I loved the poem odes to his pianos in between the three sections (the longest being childhood). I only wish the last section had a lot more detail - and maybe more insight into the origins of certain songs - but glad I picked this up. ( Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2021 )

I read it quickly and was moved as well as inspired. If you are not familiar with Andrew, his story is an American family story in which we can all find meaning, hope, and pieces of ourselves. Not kidding. You'll never know. This is more than a memoir. This is a love story to Andrew's piano(s). This is a story of addiction. This is a story of loss. This is a story of being at the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. This is his story. As a long time fan of Andrew (2004-ish?) I may be bias, but I'm not wrong in stating that this memoir is a beautifully written piece of literature. I would not expect anything less from the soul that (without knowing so) got me through some of my toughest times. In a lot of ways, I've grown up with Andrew. I've followed him from his Something Corporate days, to now. In fact, to a show last month in Albany. Being a fan, you hear Andrew talk about moments that correlate to a song he has written. What a captivating and fantastic book. If you are a fan of Andrew's music, or even if you just love a good lyric, this book will resonate in more ways than one. I was a little emo kid and loved Something Corporate but it was my wife who introduced me to Andrews other endeavors. As a musician he is great, as an author he is fantastic. His story is one that will resonate with almost any person, and it is full of inspiration and hope. Go donate to the Dear Jack foundation if you really want to show your support!
